| "The Plan Z mixtape" is a uniquely relevant art project. Besides focusing on subject matter that is current and fresh, the WAY it's being crafted and distributed could only, and would only, be done in these times. Though Mister Nik is the prominent vocalist on all of the songs, much of the music was created through collaborations with artists from all over the world that met online. The songs are released one at a time, in generations, as free downloads. "Ultimately, I'm making this stuff JUST to share my life experience." says, Mister Nik, "My values, my passions, my intrigues... And how we connect as a community through social media is VERY intriguing to me. Online, and objectively, my listeners provide feedback that directly influences my work. I'll admit, it's kinda hard to allow people to judge the unfinished stuff. But, by exposing the process, I've been able to create art that directly reflects both my life, and those around me." |
| Most mixtapes exist simply to showcase an upstart rapper's lyrical abilities. Usually, they sample the music of other Hip Hop artists. Bending the mold a bit, Mister Nik has intentionally sampled nothing but the music from his favorite non Hip Hop artists. "These are all the tracks I rap over when I'm driving, or in the shower... I thought it'd be fun to do a mixtape with nothing but samples from bands like Modest Mouse, Dire Straits, the Seattle Symphony... different stuff." |
| "Hip Hop does make up most of my musical consumption, but my background also includes jazz and rock. So, I've spent a lot of time freestyling over THAT music. Plus, to fit these songs into a Hip Hop sized box, I'd needed to cut, and change them up quite a bit , giving me a chance to showcase my song writing abilities." |
